“Being able to walk amongst the stones at dawn without the crowds and without the rope barrier is a truly magical experience and wonderful photo opportunity” “
We also allow time to visit the fabulous new English Heritage Stonehenge Visitor Centre which is now a transformed experience. The new world-class visitor centre, housing museum-quality permanent and temporary exhibitions, plus a spacious shop and café. We include time to explore the centre, do some shopping and have a coffee / snack before going to the inner circle after it is officially closed to the public.
“Unique to this guided tour is the sense of being in an ancient and sacred place; the combination of the natural and historic sights is simply spectacular.”
Then we will visit key archaeology sites including Durrington Walls, Woodhenge and The Cursus and learn more about the archaeological landscape and investigative work that has taken place in recent years. An optional walk allows you to work the Stonehenge Avenue.
The rest of the the morning is spent at the Avebury World Heritage Landscape. Avebury is the largest stone circle in Europe and we will walk the West Kennet Avenue – enter the stone circle through the southern entrance, witnessing the contrast between the prehistoric remains and the beautiful medieval village situated inside.
We also visit Silbury Hill, the largest man-made hill in prehistoric Europe. We enter the 5600 year old burial chamber of West Kennet Long Barrow, entering a sacred space originally reserved only for ritual specialists and the dead.
“The big skies, striking views of the stone circle and sense of ancientness make the Stonehenge landscape a fine place for a truly magical guided tour”
